Mexico City is the capital of Mexico and is one of the world's largest and most populated cities. As the economic, financial and cultural center of the country, many visitors, both business and leisure descend upon the city and as such, there are a great many Mexico Five Star Hotels from which guests can choose. All the major hotel chains are represented as well as many boutique-style, resorts and traditional Mexican hotels.

Mexico City is located 2200 meters above sea-level in the high plateau area in the center of the country in Mexico Valley. It was originally built by the Aztecs but was destroyed and subsequently rebuilt by the Spanish in 1521. During the 19th century, the Americans, French and Spanish occupied the city at various times and left behind many beautiful European-styled buildings including the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Palacio Postal as well as the famous Paseo de la Reforma promenade. The Mexican Revolution of the early 20th century saw a change in architecture with huge growth resulting from the influx of thousands of immigrants from the rest of the country leading to massive shantytowns on the edge of the city.

The city is built on the dry bed of Lake Texoco and is surrounded by high mountains and volcanoes which contribute to the heavy pollution suffered by the city. It is also prone to earthquakes and flooding due to poor drainage of heavy rain out of the valley. Summers are hot with heavy rain and winters cold and dry. The best time to visit the city is spring from March to May when the air is warm and dry and not too hot.

Located throughout the center, Mexico City Five Star Hotels are well positioned to provide easy access to both the leisure, financial and business districts of the city. Many are situated along the Paseo de la Reforma and in the Polanco district, one of Mexico City's biggest business and shopping districts.

They provide a soothing oasis from which to explore one of the world's largest and dynamic capitals. The urban center has been in existence since the pre-Columbian 12th century and is filled with historical buildings from that period onwards. La Plaza de la Constitucion is the largest square in the world surrounded by historic buildings while the Plaza Garibaldi-Mariachi is surrounded by cafes and restaurants and live music and is much favored by tourists. Craft markets and pretty parks and literally hundreds of history, art and cultural museums are not to be missed. A visit to the ruins of Teotihaucan and to Xochimilco on the outskirts of the city is essential.

Mexico Five Star Hotels come in a variety of architectural forms from the luxurious, colonial-style, 8-story hacienda of the Four Seasons to the award-winning upscale, sophisticated, ultra-modern InterContinental Mexico City. With large open-air courtyards, historic settings and restful tropical gardens with sculptures, and fountains, Mexico Five Star Hotels provide a striking contrast to the heat and the frenetic pace of the busy streets. Soaring lobbies welcome guests with grand staircases, marble floors and columns, soothing sounds of water cascading from fountains and elegant chairs and sofas.

Guest rooms at Mexico hotels are graciously appointed and feature modern amenities such as air-conditioning, cable and satellite TV, movie rental and entertainment center, coffee maker, hairdryer, high speed internet access, dual-line telephones with voicemail, trouser press, iron&ironing board, and a mini-bar. The interiors are based on modern design and decorative trends to create a classic elegant reference to new contemporary style. The large king-size beds dressed in plush linen, oriental carpets, working desk and overstuffed chairs provide the perfect space to relax and unwind. Marble bathrooms feature deep soaking tubs, separate showers, WCs in private alcoves, bathrobes, makeup and shaving mirrors and designer bath products.

Fantastic international dining opportunities await guests at these luxury hotels. Contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, French and Asian cuisine is served in elegant yet comfortable settings. Shaded terraces are perfect for a casual breakfast and lunch while bars reminiscent of a British lounge with sofas and heavy leather chairs are perfect for light meals and drinks after a busy day. 24-hour room service is also available to those guests who wish to dine in the privacy of their own rooms.

There is nothing quite as relaxing and rejuvenating as a visit to a luxurious Health Club at anyone of the hotels. Here, professional massage therapists and beauty therapists work hard to eliminate tension and scrub and treat every inch of the body. Included in the Health Clubs are a swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna and Jacuzzi while locker rooms, private treatment rooms, relaxing showers and soft towels and bathrobes complete the picture.

Many meeting rooms at Mexico Five Star Hotels provide European elegance in the heart of the city with large windows and lovely views over the gardens or the city skyline. They are perfect for gala banquets, private receptions and meetings in an array of sizes and can host everything from creatively themed events and conventions to elaborate formal receptions and dinners.

Other recreational activities are provided by large outdoor swimming pools surrounded by a sundeck with lounge chairs, café tables and umbrellas. Jogging paths, picnic areas and canoe rental are all available to guests as are golf courses, horse riding and tennis.

Mexico Five Star Hotels are indeed an oasis in a crowded frenetic city. Providing timeless luxury in ideal locations, both business and leisure guests will find the rest they need and all the amenities and facilities to ensure a truly memorable stay.
